About
The Falls Creek Art Camp (FCAC) was founded by artist David Hugh Thomas, photographer Peter Bennetts and artist Cameron Robbins following a bushwalk in Wilsons Promontory in 2003. David curated ‘Geometer” (9 artists at the ‘prom’) which exhibited at Brightspace and Monash University Gipplsand, that year. In 2005, Peter Bennetts suggested a move to Falls Creek, to do a similar project.
The FCAC had 4 exhibitions at Gateway, a venue in Falls Creek, organised by David, and opened each year at the beginning of the ski season in June, by the relevant State Government Minister.
In 2006 the group were invited to exhibit at Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell ‘Falls Creek Artist Camp’ featured artists; Peter Bennetts Jane Burton Catherine Clover Anna Ephraim Maya Green David Noonan Cameron Robbins Renee So Jacqui Stockdale David Hugh Thomas Peter Walsh.
In 2016, David organised ‘Space Material’, a one day exhibition at Monash University Museum of Art, showing collages and sound pieces all produced in Falls Creek. Artists included Julie-Louise Bacon, Jake Clover, Saskia Doherty, Brodie Ellis, Briony Galligan, Michaela Gleave, John Nixon, Cameron Robbins, David Palliser, Rachel Schenberg, Jacqui Stojanovic, David Hugh Thomas, Madeleine Thornton, Smith Karl Wiebke, David Chesworth and Sonia Leber.
